At least one son, John (born 1842), enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War. According to the Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio, John enlisted, at age 19, on 21 Aug 1861. He served with Company H, Ohio 30th Infantry Regiment and mustered out on 13 Aug 1865 at Little Rock, AR.
