FAMILY BACKGROUND

John Hyme, the earliest discovered ancestor of this line, was born about 1816 in New York and died 28 Nov 1884 in Fairfield County, Ohio. He lived in Ohio as early as 1837, when his first child, Amos, was born.

John Hyme married Frederica Deitzler. She was born in Wurtenburg Germany about 1819. She died 9 Aug 1891 in Fairfield County, Ohio.

At least one son, John Hyme (born 1842), enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War. According to the Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio, John enlisted, at age 19, on 21 Aug 1861. He served with Company H, Ohio 30th Infantry Regiment and mustered out on 13 Aug 1865 at Little Rock, AR.

Know all Men by these Presents: That Frederica Hymes, Widow of John Hymes deceased, Amos Hyme and Laney Hymes, his Wife, Joseph Hymes and Lettie Hymes, his wife; John Hymes and Maggie Hymes, his wife, Susan Markwood and Jacob Markwood, her husband, Mary Green and Thomas Green, her husband; Laney Finkbone and John Finkbone [sic-should be Fink], her husband; in consideration of one dollar, and other considerations to wit: The grantees caring for and providing food, clothing, medical attendance, nursing and burial expenses, for the said Johy Hymes, deceased and his widow Frederica Hymes, the receipt where of is hereby acknowledged, do hereby grant, Bargain, sell and convey to the said Mary Hymes and her heirs and assigns forever the following described real estate- wit: Situated in the County of Fairfield in the State of Ohio and known and distinguished by being the North part of the South West Quarter of the South East Quarter of section number twenty seven (27) Township No. fourteen (14) of Range No. nineteen (19) and containing twenty acres of land more or less, and being the same premises as was owned by John Hymes senior during his life time and the grantor herein Frederica Hymes and all the estate, in equity, of, in and to the said premises; together with all the privileges and appurtenances to the same belonging, and all the rents, issues and profits there of so have and to hold the same to the only proper use of the said grantee, and her heirs and assigns forever and the said grantors for themselves and for their heirs, executors and administrators, do hereby leavenant with the said grantee, her heirs and assigns, that they are the true and lawful owners of the said premises, and have full power to convey the same; that the title so conveyed, is clear, free and unencumbered; and further, that they will Warrant and Defend the same against all claim, or claims, of all persons whomsoever.

In Witness whereof, the paid grantors, (each of whom having any dower interest in said premises, hereby waiving the same) have hereunto set their hands, this 28 day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Ninety one. Signed and acknowledged in presence of us:

be it remembered, that on the 28 day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Ninety one, before me, the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace in and for said county, personally came Frederica Hymes, Amos Hyme, Lena Finke, Mary Green, Joseph Hyme, Susan Markwood, Jacob Markwood, Bettie Hyme the grantor in the foregoing deed, and acknowledged the signing there of to be their voluntary act for the use and purposes therein mentioned in testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my official character seal on the day and year last aforesaid. I, W. A. Aughinbaugh, a Notary Public in and for said County and state aforesaid do hereby certify that John Hyme and Margareta Hyme his wife personally known to me to be the same persons whose names are subscribed to the foregoing instrument, appeared before this day in person and acknowledged that they signed and delievered the said instrument as their free and voluntary act for the uses and purposes therein set forth including the release and waivor of the right of homestead, given under my hand and notarial seal this 14th Sept, 1891.
